Soapbox Derby is back!
|
|
Our 12th Annual Soapbox Derby is promising to be another spectacular day of fun and excitement for all the family in Hinckley town centre.
This year we have a fantastic line-up of over 30 soapbox teams who will be pushing their hand crafted, fine-tuned machines to the absolute limits. Safety is paramount, so each soapbox will undergo a scrutineering check to ensure they are fit to race.
Some teams will be representing local businesses, others are new or returning soapbox enthusiasts who just love the challenge, and that element of danger that is synonymous with soapbox racing. Their mission is to travel from the top to the bottom of Castle Street in the fastest possible time, whilst either navigating a chicane or taking a 'jump' obstacle, without losing control!!
Racing starts at 11.00am prompt and, best of all, it is totally FREE to spectators. This is a hugely popular event on our annual calendar and we recommend getting into town early to find a good vantage point. There will be lots of cafes and retailers open on the day for your enjoyment.
**Church Walk car park will be closed as it is within the event area**
Remember, Council owned car parks are FREE on Sundays.
Full Soapbox Derby details can be found on our website.

Another Hinckley Success Story
|
Antoinette Designs - Celebrating 50 Successful Years
|
Celebrating 50 years of dedication from a highly talented, creative and internationally recognised award-winning footwear designer – another Hinckley success…
Many people within the Borough of Hinckley may not have heard of Antoinette Designs, but are likely to recognise the name of its founder - Rosemary Wright BEM. At some time over the past 50 years, their feet (and those of most of the people within the UK) are likely to have reflected both style and comfort when wearing shoes which her company has designed and probably patented!
For much of the 50 years since founding Antoinette Designs, Rosemary and her Team have traded from their Studios on Leicester Road, Hinckley and have travelled the world by invitation to clients factories, carrying out Design, Pattern and Technical Constructional Contracts involving all aspects of shoes, their design and their patents. Rated extremely highly by many well known international footwear brands including Skechers USA , Doc Martens, Playboy USA, Mothercare, BHS, Next plc, La Filanto Italy, Hush Puppies Ltd, M&S, British Shoe Corporation, Rocket Dog USA, and even by appointment to Royal children, Rosemary also formed a company in the USA. As soon as shoes were sold into the USA it was necessary by USA law to have on the ’Patents and Intellectual Property registration’ the name of the actual creator or designer. This is why the name R.W. Wright is the named creator on so many famous footwear Patents and IP registrations worldwide. She has since appeared as an ’expert witness’ in many legal cases, including in the Royal Courts of Justice.
People within Hinckley may know Rosemary better from her interest in the Town with her unremunerated work as a Director of HTCP BID, Chair of Hinckley and District Chamber of Trade, as Chairman of the JCC Foundation Trust and as President of the Hinckley Leicester Road Football Club.

'Junk Couture' from NWSLC Helps Support Local Charity
|
Well done indeed to some very creative first-year fashion students at North Warwickshire South Leicestershire College's Hinckley Campus.
They worked on a special project to upcycle donated clothing from local charity Emmaus Leicestershire & Rutland. The project culminated in a fashion show based around 'junk couture' which showcased the talent of all those involved. The charity benefited too through a donation from the students for all of the items used.
Well done to all those involved. What a great opportunity for collaboration.
