It was a day of great competitiveness and sporting camaraderie and we at Hinckley BID are proud to be able to provide an annual event that is so well embraced by the teams who enter a Soapbox and loved by the crowds.
Held on Castle Street - Hinckley’s main shopping street – speeds of up to 35mph were recorded by some of the carefully designed soapboxes who do battle for a host of Trophies.
With categories including Junior and Senior, Amateur, Novelty and ‘Best Turned-Out Soap Box & Crew’ – the entries this year surpassed all expectations and some of the Team’s names reflected their enthusiasm – ‘Full throttle’, ‘Fast not Furious’ and the ‘Flying Duckmen’!
The award for ‘Most Enthusiastic Junior Racer’ was presented by Hinckley Mayor, Cllr Robin Webber-Jones to team ‘No Hope’, the 12th Hinckley Scouts team showed immense enthusiasm and determination despite their team’s name.
Financed by the town-centre Businesses within the Hinckley BID area, together with a much-appreciated financial contribution from sponsor the TMS Motor Group (a family owned and run business, with family at the heart of everything they do) organisers Hinckley BID passed their very grateful thanks to all those who also volunteered their help to set the course up from 6am.
Organiser Hannah O'Dell commented ‘Once again Castle Street came alive on a Sunday with cheers from thousands of spectators as 27 soapboxes sped down Castle Street. The ramp took a beating and so did some of the safety fencing, but nevertheless it was great fun! – our thanks to all who entered and the volunteers and events team who assisted us’.
BID Director Steve Wegerif added ‘Our thanks to all the businesses in Hinckley Town centre – their financial contribution to the BID enables these huge events to take place and allow us to showcase the very best of Hinckley. Thanks also to the Borough Council for their support and to those who made this event happen.’
Congratulations to:
Fast not Furious who were awarded 'Best Amateur Build'
The Tea Party who were awarded 'Best Novelty Soapbox' and 'Best Turned Out Soapbox and Crew'
