Breaking all records to date for this annual Hinckley BID Town Centre Event, people of all ages and abilities showed their enthusiasm for Pancake Day by running up our main pedestrianised street and demonstrating their flipping talents before trying to cross the Finish Line first!
The first Pancake Race started 578 years ago in Olney, Bucks – following on from then, our intrepid racers ran up the hill in small groups and stopped at 2 points along the route to flip their pancakes. Several had dressed especially for the occasion with cleverly designed homemade costumes, including the ‘Best Costume’ Winners - ‘Pancake’ and ‘Pan’. It was great to see team efforts from local businesses and their staff enjoying the fun. Many have shared their Pancake Race exploits online through social media.
Deputy Mayor Councillor Scott Gibbens and his wife, Cathie, kindly presented the Trophies to the worthy winners and every entrant received an especially crafted commemorative medal.
This year we awarded the ‘Best Costume’ trophy to Junior race entrants, Oliver and James. The ‘Excellent Effort’ award went to Thomas Danson. We awarded two ‘Junior Race Runners-up’ to Cowen and Max, whilst the overall ‘Junior Race Winner’ was Chisoromije.
The Senior Race Runner-up was Kara Spencer from Armstrongs Wealth Planning, whilst the overall Senior Race Winner was Tess Sneddon, who was here on her holiday all the way from Australia!
Congratulations to all our winners and well done to all race entrants for taking part. Last, but not least, thank you to the wonderful spectators who showed up to offer their support!
This was described by several of the large crowd who had gathered to watch as a ‘fantastic and inclusive, free community event’! All of our Town Centre Events for 2023 (mostly free of charge) can be found on www.hinckleybid.co.uk or call 01455 698494.
