ONE of Hinckley’s oldest independent shops has been handed a prestigious award.
Family-run Johnson’s lingerie shop, based on Castle Street, won Best Online Intimatewear Retailer for the East Midlands at the Corporate Vision Magazine awards.
The much-loved shop, which sells women’s lingerie as well as clothing and swimwear both in-store and online, has been open since 1947 and has always been run by family members.
They launched their first retail website in 2000 - in what was a pioneering move at the time - and have since moved to a more mobile-friendly site.
Gayner Johnson, who runs the store, said: “We are absolutely delighted with this accolade, and it proves that hard work and diligence over the last 20 years of online retail has reaped rewards.”
Steve Wegerif, from Hinckley BID, said: "Johnson’s is one of Hinckley’s oldest niche independent shops and we are thrilled that they have come out of lockdown to win this award.
“They offer a personalised service that can be quite rare in their industry now, and we think this is what sets them apart from many other similar retailers."
